Reading Kristin Neff’s book Self-Compassion has me feeling validated in my experience with meditation and self compassion as tools for feeling more secure and accepted. Her research suggests that people who are self-compassionate are generally more motivated, productive and have deeper connections in their relationships. I really love her distinction between self esteem and self compassion. It does take work to break the self-criticizing habits of a lifetime, but at the end of the day, you are only being asked to relax, allow life to be as it is, and open your heart to yourself. It’s easier than you might think, and it could change your life. Check out her TedX
